Summary:

Shahjahanpur: Three-month-old Durga, a female elephant calf rescued from the forests of Bijnor, has become the centre of attention in Dudhwa National Park ever since its arrival. When Durga arrived in the park, we all were overjoyed and considered her as a gift from the goddess. Little Durga has created a special bond with deputy director Mahaveer Kaujalgi and his family members and even Kaujalgi now understands the demands of the calf through its actions. We took the advice of Dr KK Sharma, a pachyderm expert from WWF-India and Dr Aditi Sharma, veterinarian from Rajaji Tiger Reserve for rearing Durga by hand. Durga now recognises us quite well.”Pandey said, “We are quite happy to have a new member in the park and our staff is on toes to ensure the calf is in the best of health..
