Students accuse teacher of sexual harassment

Pilibhit: Two first-year students of an industrial training institute here have accused a teacher of sexually harassing them. In a written complaint to police, they claimed that teacher also used to demand money from them to buy liquor and often came to class drunk.The teacher concerned has fled. Police are probing the matter.Students and parents gathered at the insititute’s campus on Saturday, demanding action against the teacher, Dharm Pal. Students claimed they had been tolerating his demand for money for liquor but his sexual assault was unacceptable.On being asked by TOI, principal of the ITI, Anil Verma, said he had joined the college barely 45 days ago and was not aware about Dharm Pal’s activities.Verma said he has constituted an inquiry committee to probe the matter. “I have also referred the matter to the director of technical education, UP government, for necessary action,” he added.On being asked why an FIR in the matter of sexual harassment, especially when the victims have already filed written complaint with police, had not been registered, circle officer of Pilibhit city circle Dharam Singh Marchhal said the FIR would be lodged on Sunday as soon as the enquiry report is filed by the police personnel concerned..
