Marriage promises go wrong, youth booked for rape

Pilibhit: A 22-year-old youth was booked on Sunday for allegedly sexually harassing a 17-year-old girl for several months on the pretext of marrying her.The accused has been identified as Raju, a resident of village Mahad Khas under Puranpur Kotwali police station. The accused is absconding but he will be arrested soon, he added. The complaint was filed after the accused refused to marry the girl.The victim’s mother said that when she asked Raju to marry her daughter, he threatened her with dire consequences and abused her. When his parents were approached in the matter, even they threatened to kill us, she added.Station house officer of Puranpur Kotwali police station, Keshav Tiwari, said that an FIR was lodged against Raju under sections 376 (rape), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and section 3,4 of POCSO Act..
