Gauriphanta highway closed for construction for three months

Shahjahanpur: Gauriphanta Road, the international highway that goes through Dudhwa forests and connects India with Nepal via Gauriphanta border in Lakhimpur Kheri district, has been closed from Tuesday for construction work. The issue was also raised with UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath during his birthday celebrations, before the construction work finally kicked off. Traffic on this Palia-Nepal route will be diverted from Chandan Chowki check post near the entry gate of Dudhwa national park.Sub divisional magistrate (SDM), Palia, Sunandu Sudhakaran told TOI, “Gauriphanta Road will be closed for over three months due to road construction work and the Chandan Chowki road will be used as the main route to reach Nepal.” Daily commuters have been advised to follow an alternative route, which goes through Chandan Chowki area.Gauriphanta highway is a stretch of over 30 kilometers, and goes through a dense forest of Dudhwa National Park. It will reopen after three months.This road was in an extremely bad shape and had led to many road accidents in the past..
