Youth jumps into canal, drowns

Pilibhit: A 22-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide by jumping in an outlet canal of Sharda Sagar dam near Madhotanda village under Madhotanda police station around 12.30pm on Wednesday.As the youth jumped into the canal from a bridge near Madhotanda village, some passers-by alerted police.After receiving information, Kalinagar sub-divisional magistrate CB Singh and second officer of Madhotanda police station Ghanshyam Bahadur rushed to the spot along with a team of divers of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).After more than five hours of intensive search into nearly 10 feet deep canal, SSB’s Nagaria outpost divers fished out the body.The youth was identified as Munish, a resident of Patabojhi Nabadia village, who had been living with his maternal uncle in Mainakot village under the same police station for a long time.According to victim’s uncle Prem Pal, after his mother Dularo Devi eloped with a villager, both Munish and his father Ram Chandra had lost their mental balance.According to police, the body would be sent for autopsy on Thursday.Bahadu said the reason of suicide was not immediately known, but police were investigating the matter..
