Free polls not possible under Rampur DM, Abdullah Azam tells probe panel

Rampur: Samajwadi Party legislators Abdullah Azam and Naseer Ahmad have alleged that it will not be possible to hold free and fair polls in Rampur under district magistrate Aunjaneya Kumar Singh. The duo met Moradabad division commissioner Yashwant Rao and IG, Moradabad range, Ramit Sharma at the PWD guest house here on Sunday evening to lodge a complaint against the DM. Haseena Begum, 50, of Swar tehsil, who lost her 25-year-old son Sulyman Ali in an accident caused due to the low height of Urdu Gate in August 2017, appeared before commissioner Rao and said, “It's because of Urdu Gate that I lost my son. They also termed the order to demolish the boundary walls of Jauhar University and possession of PWD guest house and power sub-station on Jauhar University campus as illegal.However, local residents of the city came out in support of the DM, appreciating his action. The UP CEO had directed Moradabad division commissioner Rao and IG Sharma to inquire into the allegations leveled against the Rampur DM.The SP leaders complained against alleged “arbitrary action” of the DM in demolishing the Urdu Gate and forcibly taking possession of Rampur Public School run by Azam Khan’s Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust and handing over 22 rooms of the building to Unani hospital..
