Young couple ends life after families reject relationship

Pilibhit: Dejected by their families’ refusal to accept their relationship, an 18-year-old youth and a 19-year-girl allegedly committed suicide in their respective villages under Hajara police station in Pilibhit district on Wednesday night.The couple were students at an intermediate college in Sampurna Nagar of Lakhimpur Kheri district, where they had fallen in love about a year ago.Superintendent of police Manoj Kumar Sonkar and ASP Rohit Mishra inspected the spots, and the bodies were sent for autopsy. Following her call, the youth hanged himself to death in a cowshed near his home.The youth, Mukesh Kumar, a permanent resident of Majhara village under Sampurna Nagar police station, had been living with his maternal aunt in Kabirganj village under Hajara police station for the past three years.The husband of her maternal aunt, Shiv Kumar, is a sailor who ferries people across the Sharda river in his boat.The father of the girl, Poonam, a resident of Azad Nagar village under Hajara police station, Ram Bharose, had died long ago. After Bharose’s death his wife Phula Devi inherited 10 acres agricultural land, which is managed by the girl’s elder brother Sandeep.Prima facie investigation suggests, said police, on Wednesday evening, the youth had gone to the girl’s home to meet her, but was subjected to bitter behaviour by her family members, and after a few hours, the girl consumed poison.Station house officer (SHO) of Hajara police station Khim Singh Jalal told TOI that both sides had giver written undertakings to police, stating that they did not want police action in the matter..
