Four cable TV operators told to pay Rs 8 lakh

Bareilly: Four cable operators have been served recovery certificates (RC) of Rs 8 lakh after failing to deposit entertainment tax till June 30.“Of 140 total cable operators, 25 are yet to deposit tax amount of Rs 15 lakh accumulated till June 30. From cinema hall owners, the tax was collected on weekly basis while cable TV operators used to deposit tax amount on monthly basis.Gupta said, “Those operators, who were issued RC, are defaulters who didn’t deposit tax since 2015. Some operator had cleared the tax amount but didn’t pay the interest amount, what made them defaulter. All 25 cable operators have been issued notice last week following that 20 of them have deposited partial amount of their outstanding tax but four didn’t pay heed to our notice. Now, the additional district magistrate has issued recovery certificates to them on Tuesday,” Pankaj Gupta, assistant commissioner of entertainment department.According to the department sources, they had been collecting the entertainment tax before the new regime of GST commenced on July 1..
