The apex court had ruled on a plea by the Kodungallur Film Society, a film festival organiser from Kerala, against playing of the national anthem at every screening. Many fans also took objection to the rendering of the anthem, which they said was not the standard tune, but a different composition. Software engineer Avinash Kammannanavar, who watched five films, requested the organisers not to play it at the start of every film.
