Traffic awareness: Bengaluru police rope in transgenders

Bengaluru | Friday | 22nd June, 2018

Summary:

The idea, said a senior traffic official, is to rope in members of the transgender community to talk to motorists violating rules instead of fining them. Drivers were given pamphlets on safe driving and traffic rules. This was part of an effort to minimise violations introduced by the Bengaluru district traffic police along the lines of a similar initiative by their counterparts in Mumbai. “Motorists were overwhelmed by the gesture as the traffic police did not slap fines on them or shout at them,” said the officer. The traffic police hope to run the initiative regularly in the coming months..
