Separate law may nix proposal to split BBMP

BENGALURU: Deputy chief minister G Parameshwara on Monday said all Bengaluru public representatives favour a separate Act to develop the state capital. He hinted at shelving the former chief secretary BS Patil-led committee’s recommendation to divide Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike BBMP ).After a five-hour meeting with Congress, BJP and JD (S) MLAs, MLCs and MPs representing Bengaluru, Bengaluru development minister Parameshwara said: “There is a consensus and suggestion among legislators to have a new law for the BBMP. The Palike comes under the Municipalities Act (Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act).
