Summary:

more-inPolice personnel and officials from the Animal Welfare Board (AWB) on Monday set fire to over 1,500 kg of beef seized from a vehicle that was allegedly transporting the meat illegally from Hosakote to Shivajinagar. According to the police, ever since they started cracking down on illegal cattle trade, people have resorted to transporting meat to the city after slaughtering the animals elsewhere. Acting on a tip-off, Goutham Sharma, an officer with the AWB, intercepted the goods vehicle at Sadashivnagar on Sunday. "This is a new trend in an attempt to hoodwink officials,” the senior police officer added. Given the perishable nature of the seized goods, the police, after getting the required permission, took the meat to the burial ground in Summanahalli and burnt it..
