Rape accused convicted: Trial over in 3 days

BENGALURU: A principal district and sessions court in Chikkaballapura convicted a 40-year-old man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment after holding him guilty of raping a four-year-old girl in November 2018.Judge Sudheer Hanumantappa Koreddi slapped a fine of Rs9,000 on the convict. “The team arrested the accused and sent him for a medical test. The team recorded the statements of neighbours, doctors and the girl’s family.In all, 17 eyewitnesses appeared before the court during the three-day trial,” he said.On December 15, judge Sudheer Hanumantappa Koreddi convicted a 62-year-old man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 14,000 after finding him guilty of raping an 8-year-old girl. The trial was held on January 4,5 and 9 and punishment announced five days after it began,64 days after the offence was committed and 21 days after the chargesheet was filed.On November 8, the girl’s father filed a police complainttha tG Srinivas, a resident of Manchenahalli in Gauribidanur taluk, had lured his four-year-old daughter with chocolates and raped her.Chikkaballapura SP Kartik Reddy said a special team led by DSP Prabhushankar and inspector Y Amaranarayana was formed to probe the case..
