'DK road projects to be launched in February'

MANGALURU: Road connectivity projects in Dakshina Kannada including the Thokkottu and Pumpwell flyovers, part of 4-lane Thokkottu-Kundapur road project, will be inaugurated by February.After the minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari had layed down an ultimatum to concessionaire -Navayug Udupi Tollway Pvt Ltd would finally inaugurate it before February by which the wait of the people would end, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said.This project was taken up as a part of the Sagarmala Project, Nalin said, adding DPR for it was ready and the project would decongest the Panvel-Kochi NH 66 passing through the city.Gadkari will also lay foundation stone for the Kulshekar-Karkala, 4-lane project, on this occasion.The government finally started the land acquisition process, nearly after four years when the project was conceived and DPR was approved and also agreed to 40-metre road width against their earlier insistence that it be limited to 35-metre, Nalin said.Ridiculing on-going padayatra by former minister B Ramanath Rai on delay in 4-laning B C Road to Addahole stretch of NH 75, Nalin said Gadkari had cleared the decks for acquiring additional 41-hectare of land at Gundya and 6 km at Kalladka that was stuck for want of MoEF clearance..
