B'luru: 2 hide gold in watches, face-wash tubes; held

BENGALURU: A father and his son who attempted to smuggle gold pieces concealed in wrist watches and face-wash tubes into Kempegowda International Airport ( KIA ) were arrested on Wednesday. On further questioning and scanning of the items, tiny pieces of crude gold were found in them.Officials recovered the gold pieces which weighed 699gms. They inspected their bags and found eight wrist watches and eight tubes of imported face washes. The father-son duo was booked for bringing excess gold from Bangkok and attempting to evade duty. The watches and tubes were seized and the gold, worth Rs 23 lakh, was extracted from them.Sources with the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Bengaluru Customs said the smuggling attempt came to light when the duo disembarked from an Air India flight (AI 339) from Bangkok..
