Bengaluru man’s heart beats for Ayurveda doctor

BENGALURU: A 32-year-old man who suffered a stroke and was declared brain dead turned saviour for seven persons through cadaver organ donation in Bengaluru on Saturday. A green corridor was created between Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road and Fortis Hospital on Bannerghatta Road, covering a distance of 8km in 23 minutes.The deceased’s family gave consent for organ donation. His corneas were sent to Minto Hospital and lungs went to a patient at BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital. The recipient suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle gets stretched and grows thin, leading to decrease in heart pumping.Besides heart, the man’s liver and one kidney were transplanted to a patient at Manipal Hospital, while another kidney was taken to Apollo Hospital. The man’s heart was transplanted to a 40-year-old Ayurveda doctor from Yadgir in North Karnataka.The man was declared brain dead in Manipal Hospital on Saturday and a matching recipient for his heart was found in a patient being treated for a cardiac ailment at Fortis Hospital..
