Drones to monitor KIA construction projects

BENGALURU: Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will soon use drones for aerial site photography to monitor the progress of ongoing construction projects.The drones will take aerial photographs of the New South Parallel Runway (NSPR) project area (624 acres), the new terminal (T2) and apron project area (166 acres) and the forecourt project area (128 acres). The work on the second runway is expected to be completed by this September and it will be operational a month later. The 4km runway will be equipped with CAT III B Instrument Landing System (ILS), which will enable flights to land even in dense fog and low visibility conditions. The aerial monitoring will be done on a fortnightly basis. Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), operator of KIA, has already issued tenders for the project.The unmanned aircraft will capture HD resolution images and videos of the progress of construction of the new runway, terminal and other infrastructure works being carried out at the airport currently.The works are being executed as part of Phase 2 of KIA's expansion plans..
