Bengaluru: Second largest tank in Kolar district overflows after 17 years

One of the largest tanks in Kolar district S Agrahara Tank is overflowing after 17 year due to heavy rainfall in the district.

The tank which is expanded over 12000 acres was also receiving from KC Valley Project under which the recycled water is being released into 75 water bodies of parched district.

On Sunday Kolar Minister S Muniswamy former speaker KR Ramesh Kumar and former ministers K Srinivasa Gowda and Krishna Byre Gowda offered bagina to tank.

The KC Valley Project utilizes water entering the Koramangla Challgatta valley, treats it and releases it into the tanks to rejuvenate the depleting ground water table.

The district has no major rivers and series of tanks built to sequestrate runoff rainwater flowing downstream is the backdrop of its rural economy.

S Muniswamay stated that plans are afoot to develop the tank as a picnic spot with assistance from the foreign department.
