6 industries shut, notices to 91

more-inSix industries have been shut down while notices have been sent to 91 others as Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) began implementing the NGT order. “We have given notices to all 97 industries and closed down 6, including service stations, tanneries and garment industries,” said Lakshman, Chairman, KSPCB. The NGT had ordered closure of all industries in the catchment area, which were letting effluents into the channels leading to Bellandur lake. The industries will be asked to down shutters until a committee is formed to inspect the premises. While there are 485 industries in this area, KSPCB has identified 97 where consent to operate was given under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974..
