Summary:

"A four-acre piece of land was identified and the bandstand was setup. The official performance at the bandstand was given by the Mysore Maharaja's band on March 14, 1918, even though other, unofficial, events began in mid-1917, immediately after installation," he said. There are no official plans to commemorate the bandstand's centenary, says Mahantesh Murgod , the park's deputy director of the horticulture department, and the regularly scheduled events will continue as planned. A hundred years ago, a streamliner from London transported a structure to India. It was then brought to the city, and assembled and into Cubbon Park's iconic bandstand, and installed in front of the Central Library on Ring Wood Circle.According to city historian Vemagal Somashekar, the idea of setting up a bandstand in the park was mooted in 1914 and an order for an ornamental iron structure with eight pillars was placed with Walter Macfarlane & Co in Glasgow ..
