Don’t permit NRI quota in excess of 15 % in PG medical courses: Karnataka HC

BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court has passed an interim order asking the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) and the state government not to permit NRI quota in excess of 15 % while making allotment of seats under regulation 9A of the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations , 2000 for the academic year 2017-2018 .A division bench headed by justice H G Ramesh also said that NRI quota should be confined only to the children of NRIs or their wards.Dr Tariq Iqbal, a resident of Bengaluru and an aspirant for PG seat has filed the petition claiming that both the KEA and state government have not provided 'NRI quota' in accordance with law in the matter of admission of students to postgraduate medical courses.The contention of the petitioner is that that all close relatives of a non-resident Indians are included to come under the 'NRI quota'..
