Gagan got admission in NLU through common law admission test (CLAT) merit list. He hailed from Maoist-infested Balaghat district where his father is a practising lawyer.Initial investigations revealed he was reeling under depression over weak English. Many students living on that floor went home while others changed or shifted their rooms on other floors. He was dead by the time hostel authorities came to know about it.Within hours of the incident, his roommate shifted to another room on the ground floor. His faculties told local media that he was good in Hindi and was trying his best to overcome weakness in the other language..
