BMC collects over Rs 31,000 in fines for violating COVID protocols

Continuous action should be taken by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) against those who spread dirt in public places, do not follow social distancing norms, and do not apply face masks, as per instructions of BMC commissioner KVS Chaudary.

Also under the ambit are fines for use of restricted polythene, open urination, and not adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.

The teams of the BMC health wing took action under their respective zonal areas and recovered more than Rs 31,000 in fines.

They also advised other people to wear face masks in public places.

BMC corporation staff in zone 4 penalised three persons, recovering a penalty of Rs 450.

Staff in zone 3 recovered Rs 1,900 from 13 cited violations, zone 7 secured Rs 2, 800 in 28 cases while BMC Zone 8 officials imposed penalties on 38 people, recovering Rs 14,500 in the process.

In other actions to clear the streets of encroachments, BMC staff took action against vendors obstructing traffic by encroaching roads, footpaths, and other public places.

The corporation’s anti-encroachment wing received complaints on the BMC helpline over encroachments in the Rohit Nagar area.

Similar complaints were addressed at Indrapuri, Anand Nagar, and Bhopal Talkies.

BMC also took action to remove encroachments near the Collector’s office and seized vendor carts and paan shops.
