Odisha cabinet approves Rs 900 crore rural drinking water projects

The project will be completed in 24 months, official sources said.Over 4.22 lakh people of 473 villages in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts will get safe drinking water due to the projects. While 272.56 crore have been provisioned under state finance commission grant, Rs 88.04 crore has been provisioned under Basudha scheme of the state government, said an official statement.Similarly, Hyderabad based NCC Limited will take up another four rural piped water projects that would benefit 691 mining affected villages Jajpur, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts. Rs 551.78 crore will be spent for the project with funding from Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation.The projects which are targeted to be completed in 24 months would benefit around 2.34 lakh people in nine blocks of the three mining affected villages, official sources said.The cabinet also approved appointment of Brig (Retd) Laxmi Charan Patnaik as chairman and Jagannath Mohanty as member in the Odisha Public Service Commission. BHUBANESWAR: The state cabinet headed by chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday approved total six rural piped water supply projects worth Rs 900 crore which would come up in various districts.According to sources, one each drinking water supply project would be taken up in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur district other four projects would be implemented in mining affected Jajpur, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts.“The projects would be taken up as there are concerns regarding fluoride presence in water in Narasinghapur and Badamba blocks in Cuttack, there are reports of saline content of more than the admissible limit in Balikuda, Nuagoan and Erasama blocks of Jagatsinghpur district,” said chief secretary A P Padhi.Infrastructure giant L&T Limited would take up construction of the two projects in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts with an investment of Rs 360.60 crore..
