IMD sounds alert for coastal areas

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Special Relief Commissioner ( SRC ) on Saturday asked collectors of six coastal districts to take necessary steps as the IMD and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued an advisory on the possible high energy swell waves in the Bay of Bengal on Sunday.In a letter to the district collectors of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri and Ganjam , the SRC Bishnupada Sethi has asked them to treat this as an extremely urgent matter and take steps to disseminate the advisory among the people living near the coast, marine fishermen and tourists on different sea beaches.According to the press note issued by the IMD and INCOIS, high energy swell waves with the height of two to three metres are likely to be experienced in the sea around India.There is a possibility of surging of waves during high tide in the low-lying areas of the coast..
