State to form Advisory Committee for cancer care programme

Summary:

BHUBANESWAR: The state government has decided to constitute an advisory committee in order to plan and implement a Comprehensive Cancer Care Programme in the state.The committee has 15 members including its chairman. The presence of at least four members nominated by the state government and two members nominated by the Tata Trusts will be the mandatory quorum for the meeting. Chief secretary will head the committee. As the state government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Tata Trusts to work on the programme, the committee has four members from the trust.Dinesh Pendharkar, medical oncologist consultant from Asian Cancer Institute , Mumbai, and mentor of the cancer care programme, is also the member of the committee besides the government officials.The committee will set the direction for the programme and short tearm (2-3 years) and long term goals (8-10 years) of the programme, which will lead to address the prevalent cancer burden effectively and to control the incidence of the disease in the state.The committee will be convened at least on a quarterly basis..
