Plastic ban Cloth bags make a comeback in Bhubanewar

BHUBANESWAR: A month after plastic carry bags were banned on October 2, shoppers have switched to cloth bags here.And if anyone forgets, shop-keepers provide them with cloth bags, the price of which varies from Rs 3 to Rs 15. But polythene bags are still being used for non-vegetarian food. It will create fear among shop-keepers and sensitise people to bring their cotton bags or other non-polythene bags while shopping," he added. Small traders can be fined from Rs 2,000 to Rs 7,000, he added.Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said the BMC has started raids on different shops to seize the polythene/plastic carry bags..
