A shocking report has surfaced from Odisha where at least 120 prisoners lodged in jail have tested positive for Covid-19, while 2 inmates have died of the virus.

Serious patients have been admitted to Covid hospitals after such a large number of prisoners contracted the Coronavirus, as informed by DIG (Prisons), Subhakanta Mishra.

"449 prisoners lodged in different jails of the state have been released on parole for 90 days, in view of the alarming Covid-19 situation", he further added.

Apart from this, one cell of Patnagarh Sub-Jail and Berhampur Jail has been converted into Covid Care Center for the treatment of patients.

Earlier, 21 under trial prisoners in one subdivision jail of Mayubhanj, Odisha, had fallen prey to Coronavirus.

However, they`re immediately put in isolation for further treatment.
