Odisha cabinet approves salary hike of MLAs and ministers

Before that the salary was revised in 2003.Monthly salary and allowance of chief minister that include salary, car allowance and sumptuary allowance has been revised from Rs 59,000 to Rs 98,000 per month.The cabinet ministers would receive revised salary and allowances of Rs 97,000 per month while the ministers of state would get Rs 95,000 per month. Similarly, their conveyance allowance has been more than doubled taking the amount to Rs 15,000 per month from Rs 7,000 per month, said a source.While there has been no change in monthly medical allowance (Rs 5000) and telephone allowance (Rs 8,000), constituency allowance and secretarial allowance has been increased from Rs 13,000 to Rs Rs 20,000. The leader of opposition would receive the salary and allowances at par with a cabinet minister.Similarly, monthly salaries and allowances of speaker and deputy speaker have been revised to Rs 97,500 and 95,000 per month. According to sources, the finance minister is likely to make a formal announcement in the assembly on Thursday, official sources said.According to proposed revision, salary of the MLAs would go up to Rs 35,000 per month against current amount of Rs 16,000 per month.
