Panchkula: 10 booked for making spurious sweets

PANCHKULA: Ahead of Diwali , a joint team, comprising CID (crime investigation department), local cops and food and supply department, conducted raids at sweets shops in the tricity. "On October 29, the team of food and supply department had raided seven sweet shops and bakeries in Panchkula and collected samples of the sweets and also issued a warning of strict action against those using adulterated ingredients. Following which, Panchkula Police have booked 10 people from a sweet shop godown and seized 1,100 kg of sweets, which failed the quality test.According to the information given by the inspector Mahabir Singh, CID department, Singh received a tip-off that adulterated sweets in large quantities are being prepared at a godown in village Chuna Bhatti. Singh had apparently passed on the information to the station house officer (SHO) of Chandimandir police station, inspector Naveen Kumar, and inspector food and supply, Subhash Chander. The police booked the 10 accused under section 272 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the IPC ( Indian Penal Code ).SHO Naveen Kumar said, "The accused involved in making adulterated sweets have been arrested..
