Students observe black Diwali at PU

“We observed black Diwali against the patriarchal and ignorant attitude of Panjab University authorities. Observing black Diwali , these students wrote 'Bekhauf Aazadi' with paint near the hostel main gate and continued their protest.On the tenth day of the protest, the students marched to the residences of the vice-chancellor, DSW and DSW women. CHANDIGARH: The protesting students of Panjab University demanding 24x7 open girls’ hostel, in a symbolic protest , presented a poster with “shame” written on it to the vice-chancellor, dean of student welfare (DSW) and DSW women wing as a Diwali present. But the students on protest want 24 hour absolute entry and exit and want to extend the exit time for girls’ hostels from 9 pm till 5 am.Kanupriya had asked the students to observe black Diwali on Wednesday as the authorities failed to reach any conclusion to the demands put forward by the protesting students.She further said that the protest will continue until the authorities agree to go by the students’ demand of 24x7 opening of girls’ hostel. If a student comes late at the 11th day (after 10 late entries), the student will be charged Rs 100 fine.The exit time of hostel gate will be till 11 pm (presently 9 pm) and post 11 pm, application will be required if a student wants to exit the hostel..
