Radium tapes for cows to prevent accidents

PANCHKULA: Radium tapes will be tied around the necks of cows and buffaloes to make them visible to reduce accidents in a new move of the Panchkula municipal corporation (MC) that had failed to fulfil its promise of making the town stray cattle-free by August 15.The civic body said the radium tapes would help motorists spot cattle on the road from afar. Stray cattle will be covered by Rs 1-lakh tapes that will glow at night within 15 days, said MC commissioner Rajesh Jogpal, who had earlier announced to rid Panchkula of the menace by Independence Day. Gaushala owners had sent a letter to the MC that they have no place to accommodate more cattle. The new deadline is January 15 now.Panchkula deputy commissioner (DC) Mukul Kumar, who recently held a meeting with officials, said “Additional deputy commissioner Jagdeep Dhanda is the nodal officer for the stray cattle-free campaign for Panchkula.
