PANCHKULA: The national highway 73 has become a killer stretch, claiming over 60 lives in 2018.Work is on to make the highway four-lane as it was not safe for driving earlier. The NH-73 comes under the jurisdiction of Chandimandir and Raipur Rani police station in Panchkula and connects to parts of Ambala and towards Uttarakhand . These included stretches in Majri Chowk, Nada village and Chandimandir, the road from Bandar Ghati to police lines, sector 27/28 T-Point, Billa T-Point, Surajpur U-turn and the road near toll plaza of Himalayan Expressway. The most dangerous blind curves were found at Bandar Ghati, Fun City turn, and narrow bridges between Ramgarh and Barwala.No-traffic safety signs boards, no white lines between sides of the road and improper streetlights were some of the faults the police had detected on these roads.Police officials said most of the accidents victims were residents living across Ghaggar sectors and villagers of Ramgarh, Barwala and Raipur Rani.In 2015, the then Ambala-Panchkula Commissioner of Police (CP), O P Singh, has visited and identified various accidental points on the NH-73 and asked the officials to install more signboards showing speed limit, eye blinkers and reflectors to avoid such incidents, but to no avail..
