Mohali: Tobacco control teams fine 18 violators

MOHALI: Tobacco control teams of Mohali raided various shops and issued 18 challans to defaulters on Friday. "Shop owners were told about Tobacco Control Act and Cigarette and Other Tobacco Product Act (Copta) Act and consequences of violating such acts. The shop owners also challaned for not displaying warning and other signboards," said Bhardwaj.Other groceries shops were also fined for selling tobacco products without having a valid licensce in place. The teams, which collected Rs 3,200 by penalising violators, were supervised by civil surgeon Dr Rita Bhardwaj under Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.District tobacco control officer R P Singh, Rupinder Kaur and food safety officer Anil Kumar, along with others, carried out the drive in Sohana and Phase 1 in which they checked local groceries shops, cigarette sellers and other tobacco sellers. We also issued challans under Section 4 and 6 of the Copta Act," Bhardwaj said..
