Summary:

In a letter to the PGIMER authorities, the PGI Contract Workers Union stated that the institute had failed to provide wages and other benefits on a par with regular employees on the basis of “equal work, equal pay”. “In 2010, the then Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner had directed the PGIMER authorities to implement “equal work and equal pay” for hospital attendants/ housekeeping workers, sanitation attendants/workers, security guards and bearer/masalchi. However, the administration did not implement it and filed an appeal against the order,” the union stated. The union also demanded regularisation of services of contractual employees as per the notification issued by the Union Government. The union also requested the authorities to settle the case of EPF of sanitation workers deployed in the PGIMER through contractors..
