City first to release school health status

Tribune News ServiceChandigarh, July 12The Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, today released the ranking and accreditation status of Chandigarh-based institutes under the School Health Accreditation Project (SHAP). Three schools placed in the platinum category 2018-2019 include St John’s School-26, Chitkara International School and RIMT School, Mani Majra. Prof JS Thakur, Principal Investigator, SHAP, said the schools were evaluated on eight key domains, including healthy school environment, mechanism for promoting health and awareness, health services, nutrition services, physical education, counselling, psychological and social services, community participation and extent of implementation of school standards and evaluation framework (Shaala Siddhi) and involvement in establishing more health promoting schools and accreditation. The proportion of schools at the gold level increased from o.5 per cent in 2016 to 39 per cent in 2018. About 82 per cent schools were placed in below bronze category during the baseline assessment but after intervention, the schools in this group reduced to 26 per cent..
