However, almost 10 per cent decline in the voter turnout was witnessed this time. Around 76.41 per cent turnout was recorded in the 2014 Assembly elections which gave all four Vidhan Sabha seats — Ambala Cantonment, Ambala City, Mullana and Naraingarh — in this district to the ruling BJP. Prominent candidates in a field of 36 contestants include Health Minister Anil Vij from Ambala Cantonment, Ambala City BJP MLA Aseem Goel, former Minister Nirmal Singh (Congress rebel from Ambala City) and former MLAs Jasbir Singh (Congress from Ambala City) and Rajbir Singh (BJP from Mullana). Meanwhile, highest voter turnout was witnessed in Naraingarh (74.7 per cent) followed by 72.2 per cent in Mullana, 62 per cent in Ambala Cantonment and lowest 60.5 per cent in Ambala City..
