Panjab University to get pension scam status report

CHANDIGARH: The status of actions, court proceedings, and departmental inquiry against Pooja Bagga and Naresh Sabharwal, accused in the pension-cell scam of Panjab University , will be tabled in the syndicate meeting of August 20. The syndicate will decide on the subsistence allowance being paid to Sabharwal, suspended superintendent of the pension cell.On July 11, Sabharwal had made a written request for deferring the departmental inquiry for six months. Currently, Sabharwal is allowed to draw 50% of his salary as subsistence allowance.A committee formed by Panjab University and headed by retired accountant general Amrik Singh Bhatia to look into Rs-2.35-crore pension-cell scam had recommended a departmental inquiry against seven superintendents. The inquiry officer has extended the operation of the order dated May 9, 2016, till March 20, 2018. The syndicate will also decide on the proposal of member Navdeep Goyal about absorbing Dr Jayanti Dutta, deputy director, human resource development centre..
