Oil spill: TN Govt begins disbursal of compensation to fishermen

Chief Minister on Friday gave away compensation amounts to 21 fishermen from the three districts, with 1,11,448 affected fishermen eligible to receive the welfare. The accidental collision of two oil tankers at the outer anchorage of Kamarajar Port in Ennore caused an oil spill at Ernavoor in north Chennai on January 28, 2017. While ?131 crore would be disbursed to the affected fishermen, ?10 crore has been collected for rehabilitation efforts.
