Man makes bomb hoax call to US consulate, held

CHENNAI: Hours after making a bomb hoax call to the US consulate-general office in Chennai, a 30-year-man was arrested by police on Friday. Then they declared it as a hoax call.Police sub inspectors Ranganathan and Pushparaj called the prank caller and inquired him. Following this Batcha's wife brought him to the Royapettah police station.Preliminary inquiries revealed that Batcha had earlier visited Malaysia twice and Bangkok thrice as a carrier to bring goods from abroad. Batcha made the calls from his mobile phone.Bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) of the city police rushed to the consulate with sniffer dog Aakash and thoroughly scanned the premises from 10.45pm to 11.50pm. He was remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate court in the city.Police received the prank call at 9.53pm on Thursday and the caller claimed that he had planted bombs at the high security US consulate office that would go off at 3.16am on May 11..
