Heavy rain in Karnataka can flood Cauvery

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu now has new reasons to worry about Cauvery water. Tamil Nadu government sources said Salem and Dharmapuri district administration had been directed to stay vigilant. The combined storage of all four Cauvery reservoirs in Karnataka stood at 77.86tmcft as against the total capacity of 104.55tmcft, sources said. At least 3tmcft (thousand million cubic feet of water) was released on Tuesday from Kabini to Mettur dam.In what could bring cheer to the delta farmers of Tamil Nadu, heavy to very heavy rain in the Cauvery basin of Karnataka has been reported in the last three days.
