CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu fisheries minister D Jayakumar on Sunday denied allegations of corruption in the supply of eggs for school students under the state government noon meal scheme. "Searches are carried out by the income tax department over concealing of income and non-payment taxes in several companies (across the country). "If need be, we too can hit back," Jayakumar said.Responding to a question on reports about formalin found in fish in the state, Jayakumar said, "Random samples tested from major fish markets and centres in the state. The minister was reacting to the recent income tax searches on the premises of Christy Friedgram Industry that supplies egg for noon meal scheme and the government’s reported abandoning of fresh tenders for supply of eggs. The tests did not reveal the presence of formalin, and I have already explained in detail.".
