Sterlite: NGT extends deadline to submit report

CHENNAI: The principal bench of the National Green Tribunal ( NGT ) on Monday extended till November 30 the deadline for its three-member panel to submit the report on the Tamil Nadu government’s closure order against Sterlite plant in Tuticorin.Following the direction from the government, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) issued the permanent closure order against the Vedanta subsidiary’s copper plant on May 28.After visiting Tuticorin on September 23, the three-member panel -- headed by retired judge of Meghalaya high court Tarun Agarwal -- heard the views of the industry.The chairman petitioned the NGT seeking to extend the deadline as there were more parties to be heard..
