Chennai gearing up for northeast monsoon

CHENNAI: With cloudy skies, dip in temperature and favourable wind pattern, Chennai seems to be gearing up for the northeast monsoon The regional meterological department has recorded wind patterns in the northeast direction at 2-8kmph and a drop in the temperature by 1 degree celcius. According to the weathermen, the sky is likely to remain cloudy. Rain or thundershower are also expected to occur in some area.“Wind direction, precipitation over some areas and moisture build up will decide the onset of monsoon,” a weather expert said.At present, Chennai has recorded a maximum and minimum of 31.1 degree C and 25.3 degree C respectively, a departure from normal by -1 degree C.An inference of regional weather by RMC said, “Conditions are becoming favourable for withdrawal of southwest monsoon from entire Bay of Bengal and Andaman sea around October 20, 2018.”As per the regional meterological department, thunderstorm with lighting is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
