Puducherry: India-born French man, wife murdered

PUDUCHERRY: A 72-year-old India-born French citizen, who is a lawyer by profession, and his wife were murdered by an unidentified gang in the Union territory of Puducherry . He alerted the police.A police team led by DGP Sunderi Nanda visited the crime spot and made preliminary investigations. Jayakumar rushed to the house and found the couple lying motionless. The murder came to light when the tenant on the second floor noticed that the couple had not stepped out of the house since Tuesday morning and alerted Jayakumar on Wednesday. Initial inquiries revealed that the gang members had decamped with gold jewellery and money after the double murder Police said the couple - Balakrishnan and Hemalatha, 65 - were living alone in their house in Nellithope, chief minister V Narayanasamy’s constituency.The old couple’s two sons are living in France and their daughter is in Singapore.The first floor was unoccupied, and the couple had let the second floor on rent to a family.Police suspect that the gang members might have entered the house on Tuesday afternoon and strangled the septuagenarian and smothered his wife with a pillow.The couple is a relative of former Puducherry minister Theni C Jayakumar..
