Summary:

CHENNAI: The principal bench of the National Green Tribunal in New Delhi on Monday reserved orders in the Sterlite case to December 17.The Tamil Nadu government on Monday put forth its arguments with some charts to show it was Sterlite that caused water contamination in the Tuticorin area. It argued that the experts committee had only seen what it had chosen to see.Advocate Ritwick Dutta, appearing for activists Fatima and Raja, argued that it would be a violation if the interveners were not heard on merit. He also insisted that a copy of the experts committee report had to be presented and the interveners be heard on merits. The NGT authorities said the order will be uploaded online on its website within a week.Interveners Fatima and Raja said if the order favours re-opening of the factory, it would be in violation of the principles of natural justice as the parties affected by such an order, namely the people of Tuticorin, have been denied an opportunity to be heard..
