Preparations begin in Pudukkottai for Jalikattu

TRICHY: As in the past few years, Pudukkottai district would witness the highest number of jallikattu events in Tamil Nadu in 2019, said health minister C Vijaya Baskar on Monday.In 2018, a total of 73 jallikattu events were held in the district. Applications are being filed for the conduct of jallikattu in different parts of the district in 2019.Launching the preparatory work for jallikattu on Pattamarathaan temple premises in Viralimalai in the district, the minister said the event would be organised to accommodate more number of bulls. It will be held on January 20.The jallikattu in Viralimalai is a popular bull taming event after those in Alanaganallur, Palamedu and Avaniyapuram in Madurai district.Regulations laid down by the Supreme Court would be followed strictly to ensure safe conduct of jallikattu events, he said..
