Riot case: HC to pass order on Balakrishna plea

CHENNAI: Will former Tamil Nadu youth welfare and sports minister Balakrishna Reddy who lost his ministerial post in view of conviction by a special court in a 1998 riot case get his post back? The special court in Chennai declared Reddy and 16 others as guilty. While Reddy was imposed Rs 10,5000 as fine besides three-year imprisonment, prime accused Govinda Reddy was sentenced to five years of imprisonment.Now challenging the conviction, Reddy alleged that the special judge had recorded the conviction without any legal evidence. As 27 accused people had died during the pendency of the case, only 81 faced trial.
