SALEM: Officials in the Mettur Thermal Power Plant (MTPP) on Wednesday night stopped 210 MW electricity generation as power consumption in Tamil Nadu has come down due to the chill weather The MTPP has old and new thermal power plants. At the same time, the new power plant is generating 600 MW as usual.“We will resume power generation in the plants once we get an approval from our higher officials,” he said. He added that citing state’s poor electricity consumption, they stopped power generation in the first unit on Wednesday night.Following this, a total of 420 MW electricity generation was stopped in MTPP. The old one has four units with a capacity of 210 MW each while the new one generates 600 MW electricity.“Power generation in the fourth unit in the old thermal power plant was stopped a week ago for maintenance,” said a senior MTPP official..
