Tankers seized for illegally extracting water

CHENNAI: Following TOI’s report on Monday about rampant illegal water extraction in Kovilambakkam, the Sholinganallur taluk tahsildar visited the spot on Monday and seized two water tankers.“Though it was a public holiday, the tahsildar and revenue inspector visited and seized two water tankers which were found extracting water from the well that lies along the 200-ft-Radial Road in Kovilambakkam,” said J Sankar, a resident. If the problem persists, the electricity connection to the pumps used to extract water could be stopped. If that does not work, the well could be sealed,” he added.There are rumours that water tanker associations would enter a strike if police do not release the two tankers.
